Encore Envelopes has been named as one of the North East of the UK’s top manufacturers in a prestigious awards ceremony following a period of significant investment.

The North East Business Awards 2015 celebrates the very best of the region’s success stories in its thriving business community. Encore Envelopes was crowned manufacturer of the year in Durham and Wearside after businesses from across the area entered the annual Awards.

Encore Envelopes and its sister company, Encore Packaging, are based in Washington, Sunderland, and produce on-site more than one quarter of all UK mail delivered by the Royal Mail. The largest independently-owned printed envelope manufacturer in the UK, at the heart of Encore’s success is its commitment to delivering products tailored to customers’ needs.

In 2013, the company invested £900,000 in a high-speed in-line envelope machine and last year it invested £600,000 in new equipment for the packaging business; 2015 will see a further £1.5m investment in a new litho printing press.

Managing director, Russell Croisdale, said of the award: “Encore Envelopes was established 20 years ago and even in the digital age, envelopes and packaging are still vital for the day-to-day running of every business.

“Although we have clients across the UK, our heart is in the North East and we’re honoured to have received this award which demonstrates the knowledge and expertise of our workforce, many of whom have been with Encore from the start. We’re working hard and are investing in our business to ensure we can celebrate with them again in a further 20 years.”

Encore produces envelopes and packaging for businesses including print management companies, automotive companies and retail giants such as Tesco, and has won a number of global awards for its print processing based at its Sunderland headquarters.
