GPI partners with Pro Carton to support the young design stars of tomorrow

Folding carton specialist, Graphic Packaging International (GPI), has been announced as sponsor of training for the winners of the Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2017, an event that promotes design excellence in the sustainable material, cartonboard.

GPI, one of the leading global cartonboard packaging providers, will lend its expertise to a judging process that has previously led to the recognition of Europe’s brightest young packaging design talent.

Such is the success of the event that from this year onwards the Pro Carton Young Designers Award will be held annually. This is exciting news for design schools and universities that can now include the award as a regular part of their curriculum.

“It’s significant that Europe’s leading design education facilities now have the opportunity to expose their students to a competitive environment integral to their creative development programmes,” commented Tom Garsed, marketing, design and innovation director at GPI.

“The transition from education to a vocation for young designers is often a difficult one due to the rapid working pace of commercial packaging design and manufacturing environments. We’re pleased to be able to offer training opportunities to the winners. It’s very much in line with the GPI commitment to nurturing and encouraging future stars of the industry.”

The award is open for creative cartonboard entries in two categories until May 25, 2017. The entry that demonstrates the most creative use of the ecologically balanced packaging medium will receive one week’s practical training at GPI, which is the first prize.
